Family Friendly Man Cave

Problem:

Typical Seattle unfinished basement, only used for storage and laundry.

Wishlist:

Creating a space once earmarked as the
"future man cave" to a family rec room for hanging out and watching TV. Capturing the music vibe and vintage space theme that the dad initially wanted for his space.

Add a 3-piece bathroom and proper laundry room with a built-in washer and dryer. Providing storage wherever possible, as the family would lose the home's primary storage (unfinished basement) for livable space.

My solution:

I created different zones for this basement. This zone is the family hang-out space where you can watch a movie or play a game on the table behind the sofa. I designed the built-in cabinetry to frame the 75" TV and to provide storage for video games, art supplies, games, photo albums, etc., along with surround sound for movie nights.

My solution:

This zone is the music zone. I hung the banjos and guitars for easy accessibility and to create the music area. The drum set is in its alcove, surrounded by fun, dynamic wallpaper, which also helps to define the space.

My solution:

This zone is the work zone. I removed part of a closet below the stairs that was not functional for storage and added a desk for a workstation.
